Embryo Transfer - 1dp5dt

Today I am officially 1dp5dt (1 day post 5 day transfer).  Yesterday was our transfer day.  Our appointment was at 2pm so I had most of the morning to wallow in anxiety while waiting for the time to pass. Unfortunately, at the last minute, Joe was unable to get away from work so I had to travel by myself.  It was a tough ride there, I'm on hormone overload right now between Vivelle estrogen patches (3 patches, changed every other day), and progesterone injections (1ml per day), but I made it fine.

I got ready and waited for the embryologist to come in with the latest report.  Originally 34 eggs were retrieved, 33 were inseminated (1 was damaged and had to be discarded), 21 eggs fertilized (both with standard and ICSI procedures), 7 made it to blastocyst (5 days), 1 was transferred, and 6 were frozen. Shortly after his report the doctor came in with a nurse and they prepped me for the transfer.  The worst part was definitely the speculum.  I thought the one they used during my HSG test was bad, but this was definitely the worst!  Then they clean the cervix with saline solution and swabs, then insert a catheter.  As soon as my cervix was prepped, they called in the embryologist who brought in our little embie.  It was quickly transferred in & verified that in fact had been released from the catheter.  I was instructed to lay down flat with my knees bent for 30 minutes.  Once the 30 minutes was up I was cleared to go home.

It was a pretty quick process, some pain involved, but definitely worth it for what our outcome could potentially be.  Right now, in the infertility world, I'm considered PUPO, Pregnant Until Proven Otherwise! That's pretty exciting to say!  We will find out for sure next week.  If I have a positive beta then I will have to return every other day until 3 betas are done in order to confirm a pregnancy.  The hCG level must double every 48-72 hours.  The last time I did this test after my IUI I had two betas that were positive followed by a 3rd that was negative.  I am not planning on announcing anything via social media until we have a CONFIRMED BFP or BFN and all of our family and friends have been informed.  I will not use a HPT until after I have had a confirmed BFP via blood draw.  I won't go against what the doctor instructs me to do and I won't risk having a false positive or a false negative.

Overall, I feel really good about this cycle.  This was the first time since our 2nd IUI that things have gone perfectly, I wasn't over stimulated, all the meds worked as they were supposed to, I had a really good number of eggs both retrieved and fertilized. I did not get OHSS, I had no bleeding after retrieval and minimal pain.  The transfer went as smooth as it could & the doctor and his team all mentioned how perfect this cycle has gone & the only way to make it be more  perfect is to get that BFP.  Fingers crossed!

  6. You rock that girl: PUPO!!! Amen, sista. Also, quick question: did you have to have a full bladder for the embryo transfer? Or is that for a different portion of the IVF? I cant remember which part I heard that about. Also, if you don't mind me asking, what made y'all only want to put in 1 embryo? Did they give y'all the option to put in two? PRAYERS FOR YOU GIRLIE!
